‘Walk This way’ è il singolo crossover rap-hard rock più venduto di sempre

 

Scritta in origine dagli Aerosmith fu poi riproposta in chiave rap insieme ai Run-Dmc

 

 

 

La storia della canzone

“Walk this way “e’ un termine inglese che rappresenta in italiano i termini “cammina cosi” oppure “senso unico“. Infatti puo’essere sia un invito che un obbligo. La “Walk this way” al quale ci riferiamo oggi  invece e’ la famosa canzone uscita nel 1986 dalle band degli Aerosmith e i re del rap di allora i Run Dmc.

Nel gennaio di quell’anno in una stanza d’albergo Joe Perry ascoltava per la prima volta la musica dei Run Dmc e gli venne l’idea di volerli in una canzone per una collaborazione. In quel periodo gia’ esistevano collaborazioni denominate “crossover” come gli Anthrax ed i Public Enemy per esempio. Cosi’ nel 1986 usci’ questo incredibile singolo che cambiò le carriere delle due band.

Questa canzone si ispira ad una scena di Frankenstein Junior con Gene Wilder ed è il secondo singolo estratto dall’album Toys in the Attic del 1975; raggiunse il decimo posto di Billboard nel 1977. Composta da Steven Tyler e Joe Perry, questa versione con i Run DMC raggiunse la quarta posizione di Billboard e secondo molti diede una mano agli Aerosmith a ritornare in auge. Inoltre, questa collaborazione tra un gruppo hard & heavy e uno rap, pose le basi per il genere ibrido rap metal, che venne a svilupparsi proprio qualche tempo dopo e che esplose negli anni ’90.

Nel 1999 MTV  include “Walk This Way” tra i 100 più grandi video mai realizzati (esattamente al quinto posto). L’ormai famosissimo riff di Joe Perry venuto fuori per caso durante un soundcheck, fece tornare alla gloria gli Aerosmith. Il riff se provate con la chitarra elettrica non e’ esattamente cosi’ facile.
